The Meridian Garden Club operates exclusively for educational and charitable purposes…

Membership:
Membership is open to all gardening enthusiasts who support our mission. Guests can attend two meetings to experience our programs, meet members, and decide if they want to join. Upon completion of a new member information form and payment of dues, new members receive a welcome packet which includes our yearbook.

Our Mission:
The Meridian Garden Club aims to cultivate a love of gardening and enhance our community. Our goals include expanding horticultural knowledge, protecting the environment, and sharing our expertise. We work together to beautify our surroundings and appreciate nature through projects, educational events, and outreach. Join us to create a greener, sustainable world for future generations.

Find your Niche

Engage in social interaction, field trips, floral design competitions, youth gardening activities, and sharing gardening expertise within the community.

The members of the Meridian Garden Club are highly engaged in various activities. In addition to work projects discussed elsewhere on the site, the club provides opportunities for social interaction, field trips, floral design competitions, engaging with young people in gardening activities, and disseminating our expertise in gardening and floral design within the community.

Educational Outreach

Learn about gardening practices and their benefits through programs for K-7th grade students, day camps, and monthly visits to assist residents at the Ingham County Medical Care Facility.

Community Beautification

Club members maintain a variety of Meridian Township Gardens. Our largest gardening area is the Meridian Historic District. These plantings feature plants and designs of the late 1800s. Other gardens are:

  • The Okemos Post Office – planted with Michigan natives
  • The Administration Garden
  • The Eagle Garden celebrates American patriotism
  • The Blue Star Garden honors the service and sacrifices of our military
  • The Twohy Memorial Garden features host plants for birds, butterflies and caterpillars
  • The Safety Gardens – Public Safety and Central Park Fire Station
  • Plant-it-Pink Garden – in memory of victims of breast cancer

Fundraising

Join us at our annual May plant sale featuring perennials, Native Plant seedlings, houseplants, and garden ornaments. Enjoy talks on Native Plants from a featured speaker.

Funds from our fundraising projects benefit organizations like Fenner Conservancy, Friends of Historic Meridian, and Greater Lansing Food Bank, and scholarships for students at MSU majoring in horticulture.

Annual Plant Sale

Each year, club members brace the early spring weather to divide their perennials and pot up the spare plants for the club’s annual May plant sale. Some also donate houseplants, garden ornaments, and other garden-related items for the sale.

This is the club’s principal source of fundraising. Proceeds of the sale support the club’s charitable giving, education programming and maintenance of several Meridian community gardens.

Contribute your Talents

Like the soil in our gardens, our members have many talents and interests. Aside from maintaining our gardens, we have members skilled in many areas.
